Everest Base Camp Trek
Listed by Individual
Overview Trekking to Everest base camp can be a wonderful adventure to take part in with family, friends or individually. This trek takes you to Everest base camp through different villages, towns and landscapes in the Khumbu Region giving you a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It starts in Lukla (2860m) if you are going by plane or else in Jiri (2100m) or Salleri (2362m) if you are driving. Taking the 30-minute flight from either Kathmandu or Ramechhap allows you to see a magnificent aerial view of the mountains. It is, however, a bit risky as the Lukla airport has a short runway that ends on a cliff. Driving takes you across different rivers, forests, and hills and also gives you a glimpse of the mountains along the way. Your trek begins as soon as you get out of the vehicle. The town of Lukla (2860m) is popular among travellers as it has many hotels, lodges, cafes and shops. From here, you slowly start to ascend towards Namche Bazaar (3340m), a place with a history of trading. If you need to remember anything you require on this trip, these two towns are the places to buy it. Along with Namche, you have entered Sagarmatha National Park, which is a natural world heritage site. You might come across the tranquil Doodhkoshi that flows through it on your way to Tengboche Monastery (3860m) where you can pray with the monks. Your trail leads you towards Dingboche (4410m)and Lobuche (4940m), where you can watch the breathtaking towering mountains almost touching the sky. There are some glaciers and passes along different routes taking you to the Everest Base Camp which makes the trekking harder but at the same time more enjoyable. Gorakshep (5164m) is the last stop before you get to the base camp. You trek to the base camp (5364m), return back to Goorakshep, climb the Kalapatthar (5644m) then descend towards Lukla via Pheriche (4371m). Some routes take you to three different passes or the world's highest freshwater lake system. Visiting these sites could add a few more remarkable memories to the memories of the trek. If you wish to, you can also take the same trail back that you took while climbing up. Whatever trail you take, you will encounter some hurdles on your way to the Everest Base Camp. ATMs might not work, so always carry cash. Altitude sickness and many other health issues might arise due to improper or hastened acclimatization which could spoil the fun of this trip. So it is better to go slowly than to try and finish this trek as soon as possible. It is also important to hydrate yourself and eat enough food that maintains the warmth of the body. Carry warm clothes no matter the season. Make sure you get insurance to cover any sort of issues that arise during the trip. This trek also allows you to explore the different Himalayan cultures and the hospitality of Sherpa people.
